Nearly 5K unlicensed shops in Hosapete, survey reveals

Over 5,500 Unlicensed Shops in Hosapete Uncovered
Hosapete (Vijayanagara): A recent survey has revealed that there are nearly 5,000 unlicensed shops currently operating here.
Municipal commissioner Chandrappa C acknowledged receiving the survey report that helped bring the truth to light.
Referring to the report, he said: "It reached me only recently, and a full study of the report has not been done yet. However, there indeed are more than 6,000 private commercial shops. Out of these, only 20% have a licence."
He further said the municipality will ensure that all commercial establishments comply with licensing norms.
M S Diwakar, the deputy commissioner of Vijayanagara, had issued related guidelines, saying: "Not only in Hosapete Municipality, but also in all the eight urban local bodies in the district, thousands of commercial shops are operating without a licence. We should issue business licences on the spot by holding a ‘Trade Mela'."
Manohar N, the DUDC project director, said in keeping with the DC's instructions, preparations have been made to organise a ‘Trade Mela' and issue business licences by the end of January 2025.
He further said the initiative could generate ₹8 to ₹10 crore of revenue in terms of outstanding dues, for Hosapete Municipality, with assured annual earnings exceeding ₹2 crore thereafter.
