Shivaji Maharaj’s principles transcend caste and religion: Satish Jarkiholi
Belagavi: District in-charge minister Satish Jarkiholi said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was not limited to any single caste or religion but belonged to the entire nation, adding that his principles continue to serve as a guiding light for all sections of society.He was speaking after inaugurating the equestrian statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Athani town on Sunday. The event was attended by Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, labour minister Santosh Lad, MLAs Laxman Savadi, Ramesh Jarkiholi and Basanagouda Patil (Yatnal), Hindu leader Sambhaji Bhide from Maharashtra, and several other dignitaries.Jarkiholi described Shivaji Maharaj as not only a fearless warrior but also a visionary administrator who stood for equality, human values and social justice. Under the concept of Swarajya, he said, public welfare, religious tolerance and inclusive governance formed the foundation of Shivaji Maharaj's rule, inspiring generations to work towards a strong nation.The minister also announced that Rs 5 crore has been earmarked for the construction of a memorial for Shahaji Maharaj, the father of Shivaji Maharaj, at Hodigere in Davanagere district. In addition, a similar memorial is proposed in Belagavi at an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore.Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said Shivaji Maharaj envisioned a powerful indigenous rule and the liberation of the country from foreign domination. He added that the democratic values enjoyed today are deeply rooted in Shivaji Maharaj's legacy.Labour minister Santosh Lad cautioned against misrepresenting history, stressing that Shivaji Maharaj should not be portrayed as anti-Muslim. "The Marathas fought against Mughal rule, not against any community. Shivaji Maharaj stood for harmony and justice," he said.Local MLA Laxman Savadi said the installation of the statue was a long-standing dream of the people of Athani and assured continued efforts to secure additional funds for the Maratha Development Corporation.Former minister Shrimant Patil said Shivaji Maharaj was among the greatest leaders India has produced and noted that the statue had added to the grandeur of Athani. Sambhaji Bhide also addressed the gathering.Several leaders, including Kumar Bangarappa, Shrinivas Mane, Mahesh Kumathalli, Shahajahan Dongargaon, Arvind Deshpande, Appasab Avatade and Prabhakar Chavan, were present.
