DHARWAD: Even as the issue of finalizing the venue of the 84th Akhila Bharata

Kannada Sahitya Sammelana

(ABKSS) remains unresolved, another controversy has cropped up over the meet’s website and logo. The Sammelana is scheduled to be held from January 4-6, 2019. Several writers, social workers and second-rung politicians have raised objections to the logo and portal launched by the

Kannada Sahitya Parishat

(KSP). District minister in-charge R V Deshpande released the portal and logo in

Dharwad

on Friday.

The logo and portal have been criticized for having more pictures of places in Hubballi than of Dharwad. The photos of Training College for Men, Dr Da Ra Bendre’s residence and the adjoining Bendre Bhavan, high court bench, IIT- Dharwad, Sadhanakeri and Kelgeri Lakes and century-old schools do not find a place. “The famous

Dharwad Pedha

is also missing from the portal,” said Shankar Halagatti, an activist.

“There are mistakes and typographical errors galore in the portal and there is need to change the entire portal,” said social worker Gururaj Hunsashimarad.

Kannada Sahitya Parishat president

Manu Baligar

shifted the blame on the district unit of KSP and said he would direct the concerned to make corrections.

Discontent over the district administration’s inclination to hold the meet at University of Agricultural Sciences continues with several writers and activists demanding that the event be organized at the Karnatak College Ground. Police have said Karnatak College Ground as the venue would pose serious problems related to parking, traffic management and food distribution and cause great inconvenience to people.

DCP (crime and traffic) Babasaheb Nemagouda said that as a past student of Karnatak College he would have loved to see the mega event being held at his alma mater but as a police officer responsible for ensuring the smooth conduct of the event, he would recommend the University of Agricultural Sciences campus.
