Ballari: The district celebrated the 135th birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar with grandeur, during which City MLA Nara Bharat Reddy announced the construction of a well-equipped library in Ambedkar's name at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore.
He said the initiative aims to encourage higher education and inspire youth to become IAS and IPS officers, engineers and doctors.
The event, jointly organised by the district administration, ZP, city corporation and social welfare department, was held at the Municipal College grounds on Dr Rajkumar Road. Reddy stressed the need to improve educational awareness in the region to ensure social progress.
Dr Babu Jagjivan Ram Leather Industries Development Corporation chairman Mundaragi Nagaraj, mayor P Gadeppa and DC K Nagendra Prasad highlighted Ambedkar's contributions to equality, constitutional rights and social justice.
SP Suman D Pennekar and senior professor N Chinnaswamy Sosele also addressed the gathering, emphasising the importance of education and understanding Ambedkar's works.
The celebration featured a grand procession with cultural troupes and thematic tableaux by various departments. Floral tributes were paid to Ambedkar's statue, and students who excelled in essay and elocution competitions were felicitated.
