RN Shetty roadwork hit by delays; traffic affected

Hubballi: The cement concretisation (CC) work of RN Shetty Road in Hubballi is facing prolonged delays, affecting one of the busiest routes connecting the airport and Sri Siddharoodha Mutt. The 2km stretch, under construction since 2022, is a Rs 7 crore project handled by the public works department (PWD). The previous road was in poor condition, causing inconvenience to motorists and residents. Officials cite a lack of coordination between departments as the main reason for the delay.The surrounding areas, including Sahadev Nagar, Bankers Colony, and other areas, are facing many problems due to the bad condition of the road. Residents are demanding the completion of the roadwork to make it free from traffic.The road from Dennison's Hotel Cross towards RN Factory is not finished, and the installation of pavers for pedestrians is not done. The movement of vehicles on this road is slow due to the CC work. This is one of the busiest roads in the city, connecting various places, including temples, dargahs, and commercial establishments.Recently, a boy suffered minor injuries after falling into a huge pothole near RN Shetty Factory. His mother, Lavanya, a resident of Hubballi, rued that the pothole was closed with a piece of cardboard instead of concrete or hard material. She urged the authorities to close this pothole at the earliest to prevent accidents in the future. A resident of Banker Colony, Shivaprasad H, said the CC roadwork is being carried out at a snail's pace. Since 2022, the work has been ongoing. The work from Gokul Road was to be completed last year. He urged the authorities to finish the work and free the road from traffic.Sharan Kumar, assistant executive engineer, PWD, said the construction of the CC road is ongoing. The work is in the finishing stage and will be completed within 15 days, he assured.
