BELAGAVI: Congress leaders had protested against MLA Mahantesh Doddagoudar’s wife being named as a guest of honour for Kittur Utsava which will be held on October 23,24 and 25.
Now the district administration is facing the ire of Congress workers for not including the name and photo of freedom fighter and a close aide of Rani Channamma Sangolli Rayanna in the official invite for Kittur Utsava.
On Wednesday, Congress workers protested over the issue regarding the MLA’s wife and had alleged that the Utsava has become a family event of the MLA.
“First, the invitation had the MLA’s wife as a guest of honour. The guest should be a prominent social worker involved in women’s empowerment, the Congress workers had alleged.
This sparked criticism on social media. The administration then removed the MLA’s wife’s name from the invitation. But the new invitation allegedly did not include Sangolli Rayanna’s photo.
Hundreds of Congress workers sat at the Kittur tahsildar office and protested on Thursday for this.
Congress functionary Mahantesh Kumbar said: “We are protesting since afternoon but the tahsildar and assistant commissioner of Bailhongal have not come here. It shows their negligence towards freedom fighters like Sangolli Rayanna. They are insulting them.”
