Ballari: The district administration on Friday led tributes to Kannada icon Dr Rajkumar on his 97th birth anniversary, with floral offerings at his statue in Dr Rajkumar Park.Organised jointly by the district administration, the ZP and the department of information and public relations, the event saw participation from officials, public representatives and Kannada organisations.Lidkar chairman Mundargi Nagaraj said Rajkumar's contribution to Kannada language and culture was immense, and recalled his pivotal role in the Gokak Movement and his steadfast refusal to act in non-Kannada films. He also highlighted the impact of films like ‘Bangarada Manushya' in inspiring youth towards agriculture.President of the District Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority KE Chidanandappa described Rajkumar as a cultural symbol of Karnataka, noting his decision to stay away from politics despite opportunities. Additional deputy commissioner Mohammed N Zuber termed him a cultural ambassador whose films and songs continue to inspire generations.The programme was attended by assistant commissioner Rajesh HD, Kannada and culture department assistant director B Nagaraj, officebearers of various Kannada organisations, ardent fans of Dr Rajkumar, members of the public, and other officials.
