Death of newborns in BIMS: AIMSS, AIDYO stage protest
Belagavi: The workers of the All India Mahila Sanskritik Sanghatana (AIMSS) and All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO) staged a protest here on Wednesday, condemning the alleged negligence of Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) towards the death of 111 newborns in the past six months.Speaking after submitting a memorandum to the district administration, Ganga Kokare, district coordinator of AIMSS, said that according to media reports, newborns died because the medical air compressors were not functioning properly. This is a serious issue and needs to be investigated.Raju Ganagi, district coordinator of AIDYO, said that the deaths of newborns in such a large number, especially in a govt hospital, are frightening. The govt must investigate the issue and initiate action against the culprits.Meanwhile, both organisations demanded the immediate inauguration of the super speciality hospital, taking necessary precautions to prevent the deaths of mothers and children, appointing specialist doctors and trained nurses to the hospital, ensuring the proper supply of oxygen and keeping the dialysis and ICU equipment in good condition.
