, Pramod Muthalik on Thursday said that lakhs of devotees in the country are deeply hurt by the iftar and namaz organized at Pejawar Mutt. Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Muthalik said that the proposed
statewide protest
on July 2 is not be against
Pejawar Mutt seer
, but to protest the event at Udupi mutt. Condemning the event, Muthalik said that the July 2 protest will be held peacefully.
He questioned that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not attended a single iftar at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and US President Donald Trump cancelled the practice of organizing such parties in the White House, what made the Pejawar Mutt seer organize the event. He said that the Pejawar seer should withdraw his statement that Hindus too eat beef. Muthalik said that political parties are supporting the seer to attract vote bank.
In Dharwad, Muthalik said that he strongly opposes the entry of people who consume beef and slaughter cows into sacred places like Krishna Mutt.

urged the Pejawar seer to tender an apology over the event.
Meanwhile, Siddhalinga Swami of Tontadarya Mutt, Gadag, defended the seer stating that such initiatives are welcome. However, Siddhalinga Swami said that he is deeply hurt by the public consumption of beef in Mysuru. The incident has caused embarrassment to many, he said.
