Dharwad: Poet Channaveera Kanavi called for the need to recognize Kannada primary schoolteachers for their role in promoting children’s literature.
Speaking at a function to present the Karnatak Bal Vikas Academy awards at Karnatak Vidyavardhaka Sangha Hall here on Thursday, Kanavi said that the government and Academy should encourage literature produced by children.
He regretted that literary organizations, including Bandaya Sahitya, did not do much to promote children’s literature and chided progressive writers for ignoring the genre.
Dharwad district in-charge minister, Vinay Kulkarni presented the awards.
