Overwhelming response to Rahul Gandhi's rally in Belgaum

BELGAUM: More than one lakh people from across the district and even from neighbouring districts attended Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's rally here on Saturday.
During assembly election on May 1, 2013, at the same venue, there was not too much of crowd, there were just 20 to 30 thousand people. The response to Gandhi's rally has also surprised the organisers and leaders like Lakshmi Hebbalkar, who is seeking party ticket from Belgaum for Lok Sabha polls.
The crowd cheered and listened in attention to Rahul Gandhi during his 20-minute speech in which he pointed out the UPA government's achievements and lashed out at the BJP.
During the rally, district incharge minister Satish Jharikiholi also utilized the stage to thank chief minister Siddramaiah for announcing a super speciality hospital in Belgaum. Cine actor-turned-politician Umashree too called upon the people especially women to vote for the Congress in the general elections.
