KARWAR: Police arrested one person for allegedly attacking the deputy conservator of forest (DFO) of Honnavar on Thursday.
According to range forest officer H Veerappa Gowda, who filed a complaint with police, the arrested, Manjunath Devaru Bhat kicked DFO Ashok Bhat in his chest when the latter went to his home for a raid on Thursday. The DFO was rushed to St Ignatius Hospital in Honnavar as he collapsed following the attack.
He was later shifted to a Mangalore hospital where he is undergoing treatment now.
Earlier, the DFO and his team had seized a truck which was illegally transporting teak wood near Aroli and arrested two persons, who confessed to the team that the logs were being smuggled to the house of Manjunath.
Acting on the information, the DFO and his team raided Manjunath’s house. When, the team confronted Manjunath and asked for his mobile number, he reportedly attacked the officers and kicked the DFO in his chest. Police are investigating the case.
