Koppal: New facilities for girl students at Sri Gavisiddeshwara Gurukul, an initiative of Sri Shivashanthaveera Swami Charitable Trust of Gavi Mutt, were inaugurated on Sunday at Kolur-Katralli village in the taluk, with seers and public representatives highlighting the institution's role in expanding access to free education and residential support.
The PU university college building, hostel facilities and a dining-cum-function hall for students was also inaugurated. Abhinava Gavisiddheshwara Swami of Gavi Mutt said the initiative reflects a long-standing commitment to education, especially for rural and underprivileged girls, and aims to provide both learning and accommodation support.
Speakers noted that the gurukul has been providing free accommodation and food facilities to thousands of students. The addition of new buildings would further strengthen access to education in the region, they added.
Educationist Prabhakar Kore underlined the contribution of mutts in promoting education and social service.
Former IAS rank-holder (2015 batch), Chinmayi, said access to free education and hostels plays a key role in encouraging rural students to pursue higher studies.
Public representatives, including legislators and former ministers, said the gurukul has emerged as a model educational centre. They stressed that education is essential not just for employment but also for building responsible citizens.
