HUBBALLI: Basavaraj Devaru of Manasur Mutt has urged the government to name Karnatak University, Dharwad, after saint poet Kanaka Dasa.
Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, he said it is a long-pending demand of the Kuruba community to name a university in the state after Kanaka Dasa. “We demand that chief minister B S Yediyurappa announce naming one of the universities in the state after him during the Kanaka Jayanti programme at Vidhana Soudha on November 15,” he said.
Devaru also urged the government to order its offices to have the portrait of Kanaka Dasa.
He asked the government to allot Rs 100 crore for the construction of Kanaka Bhavan in Bengaluru. He also demanded allotment of Rs 10 crore for each district headquarters, Rs 5 crore for each taluk headquarters and Rs 2 crore for each village for the construction of Kanaka Bhavan.
