Belagavi: Chairman of Kannada Development Authority (KDA) and award-winning filmmaker TS Nagabharana on Sunday batted for the use of the language on technological platforms to ensure its survival for posterity. Nagabharana, participating in the valedictory of the Kannada Kayak Varshacharane at the Kannada Sahitya Bhavan in Belagavi, said, “We have been fighting to save and promote Kannada for many decades, but the language will be saved when we start using it in our daily life, as a routine affair.”
Pointing to the predominantly digital world that one was living in, Nagabharana added, “We are obsessed with our apps, using them even for our daily chores. Hence, we should use Kannada while we are on our mobile phones, when we are using social media sites such as Facebook and WhatsApp. By using it on social media platforms, we can give a fillip to Kannada language.”
The ace filmmaker highlighted the role that the teacher played in encouraging students to learn Kannada. “The Kannada Development Authority is doing all it can to promote and protect the language. We are mulling over building a language practice school in the border districts to help schoolchildren learn the language, along with their mother tongue,” Nagabharana added.
KDA secretary Santosh Hanagal, theater director Shripati Manjanbailu, Kannada organizations action committee district president Ashok Chandargi, was also present.
