Mumbai-Karwar extension opposed, KRUAC threatens protest

The Konkan Railway Users' Action Committee (KRUAC) and the chamber of commerce, Karwar on Thursday jointly submitted a memorandum to the union railway minister through D R Lingaraju, regional railway manager, Karwar, opposing the extension of the Mumbai-Karwar superfast train up to Mangalore.

KARWAR: The Konkan Railway Users' Action Committee (KRUAC) and the chamber of commerce, Karwar on Thursday jointly submitted a memorandum to the union railway minister through D R Lingaraju, regional railway manager, Karwar, opposing the extension of the Mumbai-Karwar superfast train up to Mangalore.
KRUAC alleged that despite opposition from the people of Karwar, some strong lobbies from Dakshina Kannada district were pressing for the extension.

Strongly condemning the attempt of MPs from the coastal district of Karnataka who had submitted the memorandum to the railway minister demanding the extension the train up to Mangalore, KRUAC declared that it would hold the protest in case it was done.
KRUAC said that it was astonishing that Anant Kumar Hegde, member of parliament from Uttara Kannada too joined hands with his counterparts from Dakshina Kannada. Under the pretext of extending the Bangalore-Mangalore train up to Karwar, the business lobbies of Mangalore and Udupi are trying to take away the Mumbai super fast train to Mangalore, KRUAC alleged.
