DHARWAD: Vidyagiri police in Dharwad arrested four persons in connection with a kidnap case and rescued six children. Interestingly, during the preliminary investigation, it turned out that the kidnappers were Reshma Sambrani and Priyanka Sambrani, residents of Toll Naka in Dharwad, who are the mothers of these children. The other accused are Sunil Karigar of Bhusappa Chowk in Dharwad and Mutturaj B of Shikaripur.

Police said Reshma and Priyanka, who are the daughters-in-law of the Sambrani family, had taken six children—Krishna Sambrani, 10, Suraj, 7, Sinchana, 6, Sanvi, 7, Satwik, 6, and Manvit, 3—on Nov 5 on the pretext of dropping them to school but did not return.

Reshma's husband and father of kids, Deepak Sambrani, had registered a missing complaint at Vidyagiri police station on the same day.

Meanwhile, Deepak received a phone call from a person demanding a ransom of Rs 10 lakh for the release of the kids. Police swung into action and launched a search for the missing persons.

Police teams were sent to Hyderabad, Maharashtra and Bengaluru and finally traced the two women and their children in Attigere in Bengaluru. Two other men were with these women.

A police team led by inspector Sangamesh Didiginal brought them to Dharwad and interrogated them. Police said it was Mutturaj, who has a criminal background, had called the family for ransom.

During interrogation, it was revealed that Reshma had illicit relations with one Karigar and Priyanka, who is a widow, had an affair with Mutturaj.

The family had objected to the relationship and the two women allegedly used to quarrel at home and threatened that they would go away leaving the children.

"We are still investigating the case in detail. As of now, the accused have been sent to judicial custody and the children have been produced before the Child Welfare Committee which will send them to their grandparents," said inspector Sangamesh.
