Mansur awards announced
Dharwad: Noted Hindustani classical vocalist
Minister C S Shivalli will present the awards at Srujana Auditorium here at 6pm on Sunday. While Padma will get the award carrying a citation and Rs 1 lakh, the young artistes will receive Rs 25,000 each.
The awarded will perform before the ceremony. Vinayak of Honnavar will perform from 7pm to 7.45pm, Shubhangi of Hubballi from 7.45pm to 8.30pm and Padma from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. Padma will be accompanied on the harmonium by Sudhanshu Kulkarni and on the tabla by Raghunath Nakod.
Padma, who is from Pune, was born in a family of musicians. Grandfather Kanhe Buwa baptized her into music and she went on learn from Gangadhar Pimplakar, Mogubai Kurdikar, Pandit Nirvruttibuwa Sarnayak and Pandit Gajananrao Joshi to master the nuances of Gwalior, Kirana and Jaipur-Atrauli gharanas. She is also the recipient of several prestigious awards.
Shubhangi is a diploma holder in electronics and communications and had her early training in music from grandfather D R Varang and mother Sharada. She was later trained in Kirana gharana by Balachandra Nakod. At present, she is trained by Vibhavari Bandhavkar.
Vinayak, son of renowned singer Ashok Huggannavar, has an MTech degree. He is now doing research at IIT, Bombay. He has won the first place in All India Music competition organized by Akashvani and participated in several prestigious music festivals.
