Haveri: At the Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, expect to be served jowar roti, groundnut chutney and special rice.
Literature lovers will get to savour the food of north Karnataka which will also include sweet maldi, Mysurupak, and kesaribath at the three-day event from January 6-8, 2023.
“For the people of North Karnataka, the mention of jowar roti and groundnut chutney makes their mouths water,” district president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat Lingayya Hiremath said.
The food committee recently conducted a meeting and discussed the logistics for such a big feast of north Karnataka fare.
“We plan to set up 150-200 food counters. Each counter will have an officer and 20 volunteers including PDOs and bill collectors of gram panchayats. We expect volunteers from the Bharath Scouts and Guides, NCC and other organisations to manage the serving of food. We expect 3.5 lakh people on all three days and we will allocate approximately Rs 5 crore for the purpose,” said Mohammad Roshan, a member secretary of the food committee at the 86th Akhil Bharath Kannada Sahitya Sammelana. He is also the chief executive officer of the Haveri zilla panchayat.
“We are not only focusing on food for the delegates but have decided to maintain hygiene. We know more than 50 per cent of the success of the sammelana is in the food, so we are putting in effort to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner on time with quality and quantity,” the official said.
“Anybody willing to donate, please contact us,” Roshan added.
