Dharwad: State chief election commissioner GS Sangreshi, social worker, philanthropist Jitendra Majethia and educationist Achyuta Samanta will be conferred with the honorary doctorate by Karnatak University at its 75th annual convocation to be held on Thursday.
The varsity syndicate had recommended nine names for the honour and sent the proposal to Governor who is also the chancellor of state-run universities for approval. A committee appointed by the governor had shortlisted three names and governor Thawar Chand Gehlot has approved the names of Sangreshi, Majethia and Samanta.
The honorary doctorates are being conferred, recognising their exceptional contributions to public service, social welfare, and education.
Sangreshi is an eminent administrator and distinguished jurist, currently serving as chief election commissioner of the Karnataka State Election Commission. Majethia, a 75-year-old social worker, philanthropist, and entrepreneur, has dedicated over five decades to business and community service. Samanta is a globally renowned educationist and social reformer. Founder of KIIT University and KISS, the world's largest residential tribal educational institution, he has transformed lives through free education for tens of thousands of tribal children.
