BELAGAVI: Rose is symbol of love. There are more than 24,000 varieties of roses around the world and over 3,000 of them are available in India. In order to introduce different varieties of roses to the people,
Karnataka’s first rose society has come-up in Belagavi.
Chemical scientist Suresh Patil, a resident of Laxmitek, has introduced such concept in smart city Belagavi, along with son Naval Patil and friends, to develop and spread scientific and systematic knowledge about roses among people.
Across the country, there are 16 rose societies, and The Belgaum Rose Society is 17th.
Society will help people for the establishment of nurseries, gardens and trial ground for rose plants, besides carrying out scientific research by hybridizing and development of all together new varieties of rose plants. There are also plans to establish a library exclusively on rose related information to the members of the society and public.
Suresh Patil is the member to Indian Rose Federation. "Rose comprises several contents benefitting to human health. One can shed his/her stress just by being in the company of roses and its fragrance. This apart, it also works as treatment on different new age diseases like diabetes, blood pressure etc," says 62-year-old Patil.
The Belgaum Rose Society will conduct workshops for rose lovers once in a month and hold exhibition of roses twice in a year. Experts like Indian Rose Federation president Aalam Khan from Hyderabad, Veer Raghavan from Kodaikanal, NV Shastri from Nagapur etc will guide Belagavi rose lovers participating in workshops and exhibitions in coming days.
“Belagavi climate having low temperature is ultimate to grow roses. But awareness among public is required. In this region, we see small rose trees. There are big rose trees like mango and apple trees. People of Belagavi would see them during exhibition”, Suresh Patil said.
Inauguration:MR Kulkarni, chairman of Karnataka Law Society, will inaugurate The Belgaum Rose Society in presence of Belagavi MLA Firoz Sait, Indian Rose Federation president Suresh Pingale and prof Suhas Ghaisas of Pune on 16th October at IMER Auditorium in Hindwadi.
