Kannada

outfits have endorsed Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut’s tweet saying one can make a movie titled ‘

Belagavi

Files’ on the border dispute.

Raut

posted a cartoon depicting “the plight of Maratha people in Belagavi is no less than that of Kashmir pandits”. The cartoon depicts linguistic freedom being crushed.
Responding to the tweet, Kannada outfits suggested making a movie ‘Belagavi Files’ so the truth will be known to all. Ashok Chandaragi, president of Action Committee of Kannada Organisations, said Belagavi has witnessed many riots ever since 1956, when Karnataka unification happened. “The movie should show what happened in 1956, 1962, 1972, 1986 and the recent events,” he added.
Recalling an incident in 1986, Chandaragi said: “Over 1,000 Shiv Sainiks from Maharashtra came to Belagavi and set schools and Kannada newspaper offices on fire, before attacking many civilians.”
Sena workers also made attempts to poison corporation water, and damaging water pump near Hindalga. “When they came to Hindalga, police resorted to firing due to which five Marathas were killed,” he said, adding Kannadigas will not have issues if the movie shows the aforesaid incidents. “Raut can even suggest the name of the film director,” he added.
