BELLARY: Kampli Bandh, which was called by Kampli Taluku Horata Samithi and other organizations demanding a taluk status for Kampli went off peacefully on Saturday. Protesters came out in huge numbers to raise their voices against the M B Prakash Committee and the government who failed to recognize Kampli as a taluk.
They also went on fasting for 55 days.
Kampli Taluku Horata Samithi president Aravi Basavangouda said, "If the government still turns a deaf ear to our pleas, we will intensify our agitation. Kampli has all the necessary components to become a taluk. Since thirty years we have been striving hard to get a taluk status for Kampli. It is very unfortunate that M B Prakash Committee dropped Kampli's name from the taluk list''.
Shops, theatres and schools remained closed during the bandh. Only a few buses were seen moving.
