Jumbo that created havoc in Khanapur villages captured
Belagavi: Finally, the forest department personnel on Thursday succeeded in capturing the jumbo that was creating havoc in Karambal, Jalage, and Chapagaon villages in Khanapur taluk for over three months. The personnel conducted a two-hour operation and captured the jumbo. The department brought four trained elephants from Sakrebyle elephant camp in Shivamogga district to use in the operation. With the use of trained elephants, the forest personnel reached near the jumbo and tranquilised it. Later, with the help of the other four elephants, it was brought to an open place and lodged into the truck with the help of a crane. According to forest department sources, the captured elephant will be taken to the Sakrebyle elephant camp. The elephant damaged the sugarcane and paddy crops on hundreds of acres. Many farmers complained to the forest officials in this regard. The trained personnel engaged in the operation. Deputy conservator of forests (DCF) Maria Christu Raja D, Khanapur assistant conservator of forests (ACF) Sunita Nimbaragi, and other local forest department and police officials were present.
