Janata Darshan in Dharwad on Sept 25

Dharwad: The district administration will organise a Janata Darshan at Srujana auditorium on Karnataka College campus in Dharwad on September 25. DC Gurudatta Hegde told reporters here on Wednesday the event is being organised as per the direction of the chief minister. District minister Santosh Lad will listen to the grievances. All district-level officers will be present at the programme. To enable people to air their grievances and streamline the related process, they have been asked to submit their petitions at their respective tahsildar’s office from Thursday. They can also upload the petitions on state government’s Integrated Public Grievances Redressal System (IPGRS). They will be listed and tokens will be issued to the petitioners. Those who cannot upload the petitions can hand them over in person at the tahsildar’s office, the DC said. To a query, Hegde said district-level Janata Darshan will be a regular affair, and will be held once in a month at the district head quarters. Similar programmes will be held at taluk level after 15 days, he added.Space, astronomy labs Dharwad: Himalayan Space Centre, Hubballi, in collaboration with Space e-scholar, will set up space and astronomy laboratories at two government high schools in Dharwad district. The first lab will be opened at Government High School, near RN Shetty stadium in Dharwad, on Friday, and the second one will be opened on Saturday at Government High School in Kiresur. The labs will work as nodal centres for nearby schools, and the students of these schools can benefit from the activities of these labs. Co-founder of Himalayan Space Centre, Veeresh Patil, and founder president of Space e-scholar, Shridevi Roogi, said the labs, equipped with high-powered telescopes, will let students to observe planets and understand the space better. Hubballi-Dharwad West MLA Arvind Bellad will inaugurate the Dharwad lab at 1pm.Janapada PuraskarDharwad: Mandasmita Mahila Mandal of Dharwad bagged the Janapada Puraskar instituted by Jayashree Guttal Endowment by securing the first place in the folk singing competition organised at Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha here. Kalyan Mahila Mandal of Hubballi and Venumadhav Bhajana Mandal of Bailhongal got second and third prize, respectively. Former mayor Poorna Patil presented the award in the presence of former MLA Chandrakant Bellad.

Belagavi-Dharwad railway line is still a distant dream

The construction of a railway track between Belagavi and Dharwad in India is facing delays due to land acquisition issues. The project, which was approved in September 2019, requires 600 acres of land in Belagavi district and 230 acres in Dharwad district. The state government is responsible for financing half of the budget and providing the land to the railway department. However, land acquisition has not yet started, causing further delays. MP Mangala Angadi has submitted a memorandum urging the immediate start of the survey work for land acquisition.
