II PUC Kannada and Arabic exams conducted smoothly in Dharwad district
Hubballi: The first day of the PUC second year annual examination went smoothly in Dharwad district, with Kannada and Arabic language exams held at around 43 centres, officials said.A total of 17,534 students out of 17,892 attended the examination, while 358 remained absent. The examinations were held under CCTV surveillance, with a webcasting system monitored at the zill panchayat office.
Students from a total of 176 colleges registered for the examination in the district. A total of 43 exam centres were set up. Of these, Dharwad has 16, Hubballi has 18, Alnavar has 1, Kalaghatagi has 2, Kundgol has 3, Navalgund has 2, and Annigeri has 1 examination centre.Tejswini Narayankar, deputy director, department of pre-university education, told TOI that no malpractice was reported from any centre in the region. To ensure peace, a 200-metre radius around each examination centre was declared a restricted area. Xerox, cyber centres, and computer centres within that radius during the examination period were closed.Impartiality of the examination was ensured. A sitting squad, district vigilance, and taluk vigilance teams were appointed for each examination centre, and strict supervision was carried out to prevent cheating.II PUC student dies of heart attack before examsBelagavi: A student who was going to appear for the II PUC examination in Bambalwad village of Chikodi taluk died of a heart attack on Saturday. Bhumika Malangi, 17, is the deceased student. She suffered a heart attack while preparing to leave for the examination. According to family sources, as soon as they noticed that she was unwell, Bhumika's parents took her to a local hospital, but she died on the way. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Chikodi police station.
