Hubballi residents have to wait two more months for dust-free roads

Hubballi: The residents of Hubballi are being asked to exercise patience a little longer as they await the completion of dust-free roads in key areas such as the Old Bus Stand, Hosur Cross, KC Circle, and the stretch under the flyover.
The public works department's national highways officials submitted a proposal to change the scope of the road construction project from asphalt to cement concrete. Initially, the plan was to lay asphalt roads beneath the flyover once the construction was completed. However, following recommendations from elected representatives, the decision was made to opt for cement concrete roads instead.
This change in material is expected to provide a more durable and long-lasting solution, reducing maintenance needs and offering a smoother driving experience. The officials forwarded this proposal to their higher authorities, and they anticipate receiving approval within a month. Once the green light is given, officials will commence the construction of the cement concrete road, which will span a total of 3 kilometres. This upgrade will incur an additional expenditure of approximately Rs 4 crore.
While the delay may be inconvenient for the residents and commuters who frequent these areas, the long-term benefits of having a more robust road infrastructure are expected to outweigh the temporary discomfort. Cement concrete roads are known for their durability and ability to withstand heavy traffic and adverse weather conditions, making them a wise investment for the future.
The promise of improved road conditions is on the horizon, and the efforts being made by the PWD NH officials, along with the support of local representatives, aim to ensure that the final outcome meets the expectations and needs of the Hubballi people.
Mahesh Tenginakai, MLA for Hubballi-Dharwad Central, said officials already forwarded a proposal to construct cement concrete roads as a permanent solution to the dust problem. "The officials concerned already sent a proposal, myself and Union minister Pralhad Joshi following it up to get approval at the earliest. Also working out for the alternative plan to douse the dust till the permanent road is in place," he added.
Satish Naganur, AEE, PWD NH division, said the proposal was sent to higher officials a week ago with a revised scope and that they expected at least a month for approval. "Once we get the approval, the work will be initiated," he added.
