Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation conducting health camps for civic staff till December

HUBBALLI: The Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation is taking steps to protect the health of its civic staff striving for the cleanliness of the twin cities. HDMC is conducting a master health check-up camp from October 14 to December and about 2,400 workers will be checked.
As directed by the Safai Karmachari Commission, a complete health check-up camp is being conducted for the staff.In addition, a general inspection is conducted every three months. Once a year, a master health check-up will be organised.
According to a source, earlier a health camp was organised at KIMS hospital. This time, a health camp has been held at Suchirayu Hospital in the city on the request of the Civic Workers’ Association. Around 2,400 civic workers are working in the city. In the past four days, more than 150 workers have been checked and information about their health has been obtained.
HDMC environment engineer Nayana KS told TOI, “Pourakarmikas are being subjected to more than 14 types of tests including blood test, sugar, BP, dental, eye, kidney, ECG, 2D Echo cardiography, complete blood count, ultrasound, ECG, physiotherapy, dietitian consultation and audiometry test (hearing test). All tests are being conducting at Suchirayu Hospital. Daily 34- 40 workers are being checked and all workers will be checked by December.”
HDMC health officer Sridhar Dandappanavar said, “A person must pay around Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 for these tests. But on the request of the corporation, Suchirayu Hospital has come forward to do all the tests within a package of Rs 600 – Rs 700. Out of the 150 people who have been checked so far, two people have heart problems, 2 have ear problems and six people have eye problems. Necessary steps are being taken to provide them more treatment,” he said.
HDMC pourakarmika Basavaraj Talawar said, “We have undergone several tests. Doctors and hospital staff have given advice on how to stay healthy. We have been working for 18 years and for the first time we have been given a good health check-up in a good hospital.”
