Kalaburagi: In a major development concerning alleged irregularities in the evaluation of BEd examinations, the governor and chancellor, Thaawar Chand Gehlot, ordered a digital re-evaluation of answer scripts for the II and IV semester exams conducted by Gulbarga University in Dec 2024.
The decision followed complaints of irregularities and suspected tampering of marks in the evaluation process. Acting under Section 8(1) of the Karnataka State Universities Act, 2000, the chancellor appointed Justice Ramachandra D Huddar, former judge of Karnataka HC, as a one-man fact-finding committee to probe the allegations.

The committee submitted its interim report on Jan 22, 2026. After examining the findings, Gehlot approved the recommendations in principle, citing the larger interest of students.
Based on the report, Gulbarga University was directed to undertake digital scanning and re-evaluation of the BEd II and IV semester answer scripts. The exercise will be carried out using the facilities of Adikavi Sri Maharshi Valmiki University, Raichur.
The order states that the re-evaluation process must be conducted without the involvement of any personnel found to be compromised and in the presence of the one-man fact-finding committee.
The university was instructed to strictly adhere to the recommendations outlined in the interim report.
Authorities were also directed to complete the entire process within one month and publish the revised results thereafter.
The development comes amid growing concerns among students regarding transparency and fairness in the exam system. The fresh digital re-evaluation is expected to restore confidence and ensure accountability in the assessment process.
