Belagavi: Pro-Kannada activists are fuming over the visit of Goa Forward Party (GFP) president Vijay Sardesai to the Mahadayi basin on Thursday, and the statements made to the media in Goa.
Speaking to the Goan media, Sardesai expressed concern about the probability of losing the Mahadayi water forever, and alleged that the Pramod Sawant government has failed in protecting the same.
Sardesai displayed photographs, and alleged that the Karnataka government has already completed the survey work for the Kalasa-Banduri water diversion project, and was taking up the work by doing soil testing, despite the Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal allowing Karnataka to divert water, only after obtaining necessary clearance from the central government.
Responding to the Goan media reports, Ashok Chandargi, head of the Belagavi District Kannada Organisations’ Action Committee, said that Karnataka is prepared, and going to divert the Mahadayi water, as per the recommendation of the Panchal Tribunal.
