Ganesha pandals in NK turn to Dharmasthala theme this year

To show solidarity with the pilgrim centre, associations have asked idol-makers to craft Ganesh idols alongside those of Lord Manjunatha, the diety in Dharmasthala. Several artists have accepted the challenge, creating unique designs blending the two deities.Nagaraj Uppin, secretary of Shivaganga Nagar Gajanan Yuvaka Mandal, Dharwad, told TOI they gave the order for a Ganesha idol with the Dharmasthala theme eight months ago. "We have been devotees of Manjunatha for decades. We did not know of any issue with Dharmasthala while placing the order. It was our collective decision that we should express gratitude towards the lord. Our members and colony residents supported us on this. Even after the current controversies, our loyalty to Lord Manjunatha remains intact," he added.Manjunath Hiremath, an artist in Dharwad, noted that many customers prefer to have the ‘Prabhavali' (arch-like ornament) of Dharmasthala Manjunatha along with the Ganesha idol. "Though it's difficult to blend the Ganesha idol with Manjunatha's Prabhavali, we have accepted such orders since it's an innovative idea and challenging for us," he explained.He also observed that there was no SIT or digging in the graveyard when he received orders some 7-8 months ago. "However, clients are now saying their decision is turning out right when controversies are arising around Dharmasthala. They wish to express their support to the deity amidst efforts to defame the name and fame of Dharmasthala. Even we are proud to have the name of God Manjunatha," he said.Manu Prakash, a private employee in Vidyanagar here, said he ordered a Ganesha idol with Manjunatha Prabhavali. "There may be a conspiracy against the pilgrim centre. However, such controversies are temporary phenomena, and only God and truth prevail forever. With this prayer, we are worshipping the Ganesha idol with the Manjunatha theme at our home," he added.Rajendra Shetty, a hotelier and philanthropist, said the Ganesha festival is a unique one that corresponds with current affairs. "Many Ganesha mandals incorporate current affairs as their theme. This year, they are showcasing Dharmasthala to uphold the sanctity of the place. It gives a message of keeping deity and devotion away from politics and blame game," he added.
