Free health checkup camp held in Belagavi
Belagavi: Shambavi Mahila Mandal of Belagavi in collaboration with Lakeview Hospital organised a free health checkup camp at the Chidambareswara Temple in Chidambara Nagar on Sunday. Blood pressure, sugar and general check-ups were done on the occasion. Dr Siddharth, an ophthalmologist, did free eye check-ups for the participants. More than 150 people benefited from the camp. Shambhavi Mahila Mandal felicitated Dr Girish Sonawalkar, senior medical officer of Lakeview Hospital. Dr Sonawalkar assured that his hospital will be always ready to provide more services. Medicines were distributed under the leadership of MLA Abhay Patil as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of dengue.Gavi Math hostel inauguration todayKoppal: The opening ceremony of a new hostel building, which can accommodate 5,000 students, is scheduled on Monday at the iconic Gavi Math. Harekala Hajabba, also known as 'Akshara Santa' (saint of letters), has been selected to inaugurate the facility. Intending to provide food and education to disadvantaged students, the famous Gavi Math has constructed the Sri Gavisiddeshwara Students’ Free Accommodation and Prasada Nilaya. The inauguration of the facility will coincide with the 57th remembrance of Sri Marishanthaveera Mahashivayogi. Sri Abhinava Gavisiddeshwara Swamiji, the current pontiff of the Gavi Math, conveyed that the free hostel was established in 1951 by Sri Marishanthaveera Swamiji, the 16th pontiff. The enrollment of students in this hostel has been steadily increasing, with 3,395 students enrolled last year. This year, the number is expected to rise to 5,000. The newly built hostel provides accommodation with 130 well-furnished rooms, 20 dormitories and a large dining area. Additionally, a dedicated hospital has been constructed specifically for the students living in the hostel.GST Day 2024 celebration todayBelagavi: GST Day 2024, a convention of officials and trade representatives has been organised on Monday, by the officers and staff of Central GST and Central Excise Belagavi at Dr BS Jirage Auditorium KLE convention centre, Belagavi at 3.30pm. Maj Gen RS Guraya, commander, the JL Wing of the infantry school Belagavi will be the chief guest. Dinesh P Pangarkar, the principal commissioner of Central GST and Central Excise will preside over the function. Amarjit Singh, commissioner of Central GST and Central Excise, and Arokiya Raj, additional director of Goods and Service Tax Intelligence (DGGI) will participate. Commendation certificates to the meritorious officers for 2023-24 will be distributed on the occasion, a release said.BCC seizes 6 shops, 2 warehouses Belagavi: In a sudden move, officials of the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) seized six vegetable shops and two warehouses at the Mahatma Phule Vegetable Market in Raviwar Peth here on Sunday. According to BCC officials, these shops and warehouses were auctioned in 2022 by the BCC. However, the bid winners couldn't take possession of the shops because the previous holders had refused to vacate the shops and warehouses. Due to this, the new auction bid winners were also facing financial problems. The issue was discussed in detail at the general body meeting of the BCC held last week. Following this, officials of the revenue department took action and seized the shops and warehouses that were operating illegally. The action was initiated under the guidance of BCC commissioner Ashok Dudagunti and DC Reshma Talikoti. BCC advocate Mahantesh Umesh Mahantashetti was present.3 plays to be staged at VasantotsavaDharwad: Amateur theatre group Abhinaya Bharati will present three plays as part of its Vasantotsava on July 1 and 2 at Srujana Auditorium. On July 1, the Kannada play ‘Naa Tukaram Alla’ will be staged at 6pm. On July 2 at 6pm Jyoti Mohan Dixit will present ‘Uriya Uyyale’ written by HS Venkateshmurthy and directed by Manjanabailu. After that, the scientific play ‘AC versus DC’ will be staged, written by Mrutyunjay Kappali and directed by Arvind Kulkarni.
