Dharwad: Chitra Film Society (CFS), in association with other organisations, will jointly celebrate the achievements of Jnanpith awardee playwright, actor-director
Girish Karnad at Srujana auditorium here on June 11 and 12. The 50th year of CFS’ establishment will also be celebrated on the occasion.
CFS president Ramakant Joshi and secretary Abdul Khan told reporters here on Saturday that special lectures and film screening will mark the programme which will commence at 4.30pm on both the days.
“It has been two years since Karnad passed away. Due to Covid-related restrictions, no programme to pay fitting tributes to Karnad who hails from Dharwad could be arranged. Now that Chitra Film Society, established by Girish Karnad, Shafi Khan and Vijay Nilekani (brother of Nanadan Nilekani) on July1, 1971, is completing 50 years, a programme to celebrate the achievements of Karnad as a scholar, playwright, actor-director is being organised,” Joshi said. Karnad was the president of CFS since its inception till his death.
On June 11, a documentary ‘Insight on Girish Karnad’s play ‘Taledanda’ will be screened at 4.30pm. This will be followed by reading parts of Karnad’s autobiography ‘Adadta Aayushya’ by his son Raghu. Srinath Perur, who has translated the autobiography into English, will comment on the work. Famed theatre and cinema actor Mohan Agashe will reminisce his association with Karnad.
Kannada film ‘Ondanondu Kaaldalli’, directed by Karnad, will be screened.
On June 12, a documentary wherein Karnad is in conversation with writer
Vivek Shanbhag, will be screened. Producer-director B Suresha will speak on his forthcoming book on Girish Karnad, while writer Rajendra Chenni will speak on Karnad’s literary contribution. Director-producer K M Chaitanya will speak on ‘Karnad as a director’. The programme will conclude with the screening of Hindi film ‘Utsav’.
Linguist Ganesh Devy, and KVV Sangha Secretary Shankar Halagatti were among those present.
