Ensure facilities at all govt schools: ZP officer
Hubballi: Officials should visit spots where development works are going on, said Deepak Madiwalar, chief project officer, Dharwad ZP. Addressing a taluk progress review meeting here on Tuesday, Madiwalar said all govt schools should be provided with drinking water, toilet, and power supply. “If any school is deprived of any facility, the official concerned should act,” he added. The officer also directed education department officials to bring school drop-outs back to campus. Officials of different departments tabled progress reports at the meeting. Taluk panchayat executive officer Umesh Bommakkanavar, panchayat raj assistant director Chandrashekhar Kurtakoti, range forest officer RS Uppar, social welfare assistant director CR Ambiger, backward classes welfare officer CV Karaveermath and others attended the meeting.Construction workers’ meet heldDharwad: AIUTUC state president K Somashekhar has accused the Karnataka Construction Workers’ Welfare Board of squandering the funds for unproductive purpose, and said the board has become a den of corruption. Inaugurating the state-level convention of Karnataka State Composite Construction Workers’ Association here on Tuesday, Somashekhar said the state govt passed the Karnataka Construction Workers’ Act following continuous pressure from workers and formed Karnataka Construction Workers’ Welfare Board. “The board, which was supposed to provide health facilities, subsidy for marriages, assistance for children’s education, etc, did some good work initially. But later, it started squandering money due to arbitrary decisions. Those helming the board were engaged in corrupt practices. The increase in number of bogus cards is an example of rampant corruption at the board. The cut in assistance to children’s education by 80% has hit the children of construction workers hard,” he charged. Facilities given to school in HosurHubballi: The contribution of society is important in ensuring infrastructure at government schools, said Channappa Gowdra, Hubballi City block education officer (BEO). Speaking at an programme organised at Govt School No. 16, Hosur, here, on Tuesday, Gowdra lauded the construction of a gate to the school, and providing drinking water for schoolchildren. Suresh Baburao Dalvi and Basavaraj Avannavar, who provided the gate and drinking water facility, were felicitated on the occasion.
