Employees association calls off strike

BELGAUM: Belgaum City Corporation Employees Association members who were on a protest over the attack on officials called off the protest after assurance from the corporation commissioner on Tuesday.
On Saturday, when assistant executive engineer Ramesh Nyamagoudar, assistant engineer Kiran Nayak and encroachment department inspector Arjun Dematti were dismantling an illegal shed in front of Mirji College, Minabi Chougule, corporator of Ward No.45 along with her husband Shiva Chougule and other supporters, attacked the officials and abused them. The shed, a makeshift vehicle service centre, was put up by Shiva Chougule
Following the incident, members began a protest on Monday. On Tuesday, after an assurance from commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis that legal action will be initiated against the guilty, including Minabi Chougule, the members called off their protest. She also promised to recommend the disqualification of Minabi as a corporator. Minabi's husband was arrested on Monday.
