BELAGAVI: Six youths, in what seems to be a revenge attack, allegedly murdered two men, attacking the duo with sharp weapons after throwing chilli powder at them.
The murders were reported from Sulebhavi village, 21 km from Belagavi city, late on Thursday night.
Police have put a tight ring of security in the area.
The police have identified the deceased as Ranadhir, alias Mahesh Ramachandra Murari (26), and Prakash Hunkari Patil (24). They are both from the same village.
According to sources, Murari is a key accused in a murder in the village in 2019.
A few months ago, he was released on bail.
The police have taken six youths into custody and are questioning them.
According to city police commissioner Boralingaiah MB, an old rivalry might be the reason behind the murder.
“A group of 6-7 people attacked the duo with sharp weapons,” he said. The accused slit the throat of one of the victims. A case has been registered in Marihal police station.
Police sources said the attack and murder happened around 9 pm in front of a Shivaji statue in the village. Footwear of the accused as well as the victims were in the area.
