Doddameti family joins Congress

Gadag: The BJP government did not consider the demand of declaring the portrait of goddess Bhuvaneshwari by Gadag-based artist CN Patil, as per the concept of Doddameti Andanappa, one of pioneers in the Karnataka unification movement, as its official icon. Irked by this decision Doddameti’s successors and other BJP workers joined Congress in Jakkali village of Gadag district.
Channabasav Doddameti, son of former MLA late Jnanadev Doddameti and grandson of Andanappa, said it was late Andanappa’s to make the painting the official icon of the government.
“Patil had made two paintings as per the concept shared by Andanappa. This portrait inculcates the idea of the whole Karnataka and indicates all religions. It had thoughts of Kuvempu. A resolution was taken in the 76th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Gadag in 2010 to press the government to accept Patil’s painting as the official Bhuvaneshwari image. However, the BJP government insulted Doddameti’s contribution and the Sammelana resolution,” he said. “Even local representatives of Gadag district did not raise their voice in this regard. We had also demanded that an arch be built in memory of Annayya-Tammayya, Sharanaru of our village. However, our Ron MLA ignored the contributions of freedom fighters, activists, writers and other great souls.” said Channabasav. He said hundreds of Jakkali residents who were in BJP joined Congress two days ago.
