Dharwad’s HDMC hospital to get dialysis unit soon
Hubballi: The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) hospital in Dharwad will soon get a haemodialysis unit.
HDMC has decided to set up an exclusive eight-bed dialysis unit at its hospital, along with advanced equipment, to meet the needs of poor and middle-class kidney patients.
HDMC has completed the tender process on the conditions of supply, installation, testing, commissioning and operation of haemodialysis equipment with RO system, including full-fowler patients' beds and dialyzer reprocessing machine and other equipment. In a recent general body meeting, the issue of procuring dialysis machines was discussed and passed.
Dr Mayur More, corporator from ward 24 and a practicing doctor, said government hospitals equipped with advanced technology-based dialysis machines are the need of the hour. “The more dialysis machines there are, the more people will be benefit. There is the big responsibility on HDMC officials to ensure the dialysis unit functions properly and effectively. They should ensure there are exclusive staff to handle and maintain the unit properly,” he added.
“Dialysis is affordable for everyone. The idea of an exclusive dialysis unit will help the poor. As many government hospitals don’t have dialysis units, there may be crowding at the HDMC hospital in Dharwad. Hence, officials should make proper arrangements before they launch the service,” he said.
HDMC health officer Dr Sridhar Dandappanavar said, “We have created good infrastructure for the dialysis unit. Considering the opinions of the corporators and experts, we will start the service. We have been planning to launch the service by the end of September, But, before that all the required arrangements will be made including engaging experts and other staff.”
Former mayor and senior corporator Veeranna Savadi said that setting up the dialysis unit is a welcome move. But HDMC officials should also equip the HDMC hospitals in Hubballi with dialysis machines and other facilities, he added.
“Patients suffering with kidney issues find it very difficult to get dialysis at government hospitals due to long queues. Dialysis is not affordable in private hospitals for everyone. Many people wait for a long time to get dialysis. Once full-fledged operations at the dialysis unit in the HDMC hospital in Dharwad begin, people can get timely support,” said Gangadhar Patil, a resident of Hubballi.
