Dharwad zilla panchayat gears up for Har Ghar Tiranga campaign

Hubballi: As part of the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav, to mark the 75th year of Independence, the Dharwad zilla panchayat has planned to conduct the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign from August 11 to 17.

The programme aims to hoist the tricolour atop every house, to spread the message of patriotism. The ZP has identified 16 women self-help groups (SHGs) to stitch the tricolour in sizes of 20x30 inches, 24x16 inches, and 6x9 inches, and to hoist them.

“On the occasion of the 76th Independence Day, the tricolour will be hoisted atop more than 20 crore houses under the central government’s Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. It includes all the government and public sector establishments, educational institutions, commercial establishments, NGOs, restaurants, shopping complexes, toll plazas and police stations, among others. The rural development and panchayat raj department has given the task of preparing and hoisting flags to SHGs, through the Karnataka State Rural Livelihood Mission,” said ZP project director B S Muganurmath.

“A gram panchayat level federation will help by providing a loan to SHGs, for producing the tricolour. In the district, 16 women SHGs are involved in preparing the national flag. The department has instructed them to make 1 lakh national flags. To make the national flags perfectly as per the norms, members of the SHGs were trained by the Rudset institute Dharwad,” he said.

Muganurmath said that there are 144 GPs in the district. “A total 64,800 flags will be given to the GPs and government departments. Even the public can buy these flags through women’s SHGs, at minimum charges fixed by the government,” he said.

ZP CEO Suresh Itnal said that training for making the flag has been provided to the women’s SHGs. “PDOs have been instructed to take care, to ensure that norms are not violated while hoisting the national flag in houses. A total 450 flags will be provided to each GP, which will be distributed in schools and government offices,” he said.

Gayatri Stri Shakti Sangha, Sulla village, president, Shweta Patil, said that it’s a great opportunity for them to make the national flag. “We are engaged in a great task, and are doing this work not to earn money, but for the sake of patriotism,” she added.
