Dharwad to host 3-day music festival

Dharwad: Sangeetotsava, a three-day

musical feast

, is all set to enthrall the twin cities from Friday. Organized by

Bharatiya Sangeeta Vidyalaya

, the event to be held at the Srujana Auditorium here will mark the 63rd death anniversary of Sitar Ratna,

Rahimat Khan

.

Sangeetotsava opens at 6pm with a performance by sitarist

Mansur Ali Khan

of Goa. He will be accompanied by

Nissar Ahmed

on the tabla. This follows a vocal recital by

Gauri Pathare

of Mumbai.

Satalingappa Desai Kallur

will accompany her on the tabla and

Guruprasad Hegde

on the harmonium.

At 6pm on Saturday, Naresh Malhotra of Delhi will present vocal recital with

Shridhar Mandre

on the tabla and Guruprasad Hegde on the harmonium. Also in the evening,

Josh Feinberg

of the USA will present a sitar concert, accompanied by

Ravikiran Nakod

on the tabla. Sunday’s session begins with a vocal recital by

Kaushik Aithal

of Bengaluru at 6pm. He will be accompanied on the tabla by

Uday Kulkarni

and on the samvadini by

Satish Kolli

. The event ends with a flute concert by

Rupak Kulkarni

of Mumbai. He will be accompanied on the tabla by

Rajendra Nakod

.

Established in 1932 by Rahimat, the Bharatiya Sangeeta Vidyalaya has been providing sitar training to youngsters. Noted sitarist Ustad Bale Khan was the pillar of the institution till he passed away four years ago. His brothers and nephews continued the family tradition of sitar. The institution has been organizing a music programme at least once a month since 2001 in association with the Dr Annajirao Shirur Rangamandira Trust. Raghavendra Ayi heads the organizing committee as its president.
