DAVANAGERE: The four-day Flower Show drew 2,000 people to the Glass House campus in Davanagere before ending on Sunday.

The event, organised by horticulture department, zilla panchayat and the district administration in association with district horticulture association was a delight for children, senior citizens and families.

A flower arrangement was made to mark the silver jubilee of the formation of the Davanagere district.

A flower sculpture in the likeness of the Pushkarni, an ancient water pond of Santhebennur in Channagiri, was a crowdpuller.

The instllation was made with 2 lakh Sevanthi flowers along with 50,000 red roses, 20,000 orchids, carnation, anthuriums, liliums and gypsopila," said deputy director of horticulture Raghavendra Rao. An 11-foot-high installation of Harihareshwara was another attraction along with one about actor Rajakumar donating his eyes to Lord Shiva (taken from the film Bedara Kannappa).

"For selfie lovers, there was an 'I love my Davanagere' installation with 5,000 flowers," Rao said.

In all, 46 varieties and over 15,000 different decorative plants were on sale.

"We enjoyed the flower show and the musical fountains, besides the orchestra during the evening," said Vindhya, a software engineer.

Such events are really appreciated by local people as there are no other entertaining events here," Ramesh Babu, a businessman, said.

Sandeep, who brought his children to rhe show, said it was an event that they had enjoyed, especially the bonsai plants.

"It was a good thing that city buses were arranged for exclusively to take peopel to the Glass House from the city bus stand and back as it is located 4 km away from the city," Shankarappa, a senior citizen, said.
