Couple electrocuted after wire falls on them

Belagavi: A young farmer couple died at Bijagarni village in Belagavi taluk on Sunday morning, after a high-tension electric wire fell on them. Villagers expressed anger against Hescom officials and accused them of negligence, and demanded compensation for the kin of the deceased.
Amit alias Nisar Ahmed Maqboolsab Sanadi alias Desai,32, and his wife Lata are the deceased.The incident happened when the couple was engaged in farm work. The couple is survived by a daughter.
According to sources, Nisar Ahmed died immediately after the electric wire fell upon him. His wife tried to rescue him, causing her to get electrocuted, and died on the spot.
Villagers alleged that despite repeated requests, the Hescom neglected to replace the old wires of 11kv voltage. A case has been registered at the Belagavi Rural police station.
