Now, the

Belagavi City Corporation

has decided to reduce the size of the

flag

that was erected on a 110-meter-tall flag pole. The size will be reduced to 5,400 sqft. And, residents here are understandably upset.

The 350-kg used to be hoisted every day. However, hoisting was discontinued after the flag was reportedly damaged in the inclement weather.

The flagpole was erected at Fort Lake, famously called Kote Kere in March 2018. A 10hp motor costing Rs 1.62 crore was used to hoist the flag. The flag had become a tourist attraction.

Assistant executive engineer, Mahantesh N who is privy to the development said the flag size will be reduced to 5,400 sqft. The corporation has decided to start hoisting the flag from January 26. Four flags at Rs 75,000 each have been stitched by a Mumbai-based company. These flags will be hoisted on rotation. The flag will be hoisted every day for a week on trial basis. If it withstands the vagaries of the weather, it will be hoisted every day. However, if it is damaged once gain then hoisting will be discontinued.
