HUBLI: Fed up with the failure of civic authorities to clean the drains, dispose of garbage and maintain roads in the city, college students conducted a survey of some areas and submitted it to the corporation.
A group of students doing the Deshpande Susandhi Fellowship programme at the Deshpande Foundation did the survey in Vikas Nagar, Post Office Quarters, Station Road, Girani Chawl, Akshay Park, Government Primary School of Nekar Colony and other areas to understand the civic problems faced the people of these areas.

For this exercise, 24 students in six groups are visiting these areas and involving local people to find solutions for their area’s problems, said Geeta Hegde, programme manager of the foundation.
Mahesh Desai, a student of the programme, said, “To find solutions for civic problems, we have came up with the idea of preparing a survey report about them and submitting it to the Hubli Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC).” Another student Nagendra Jeevanagi said, “We took the help of locals to prepare the report.”
They also decided to join hands with HDMC civic workers to clean these areas after getting permission from HDMC. They will take up work in selected areas with the help of locals and involve residents’ associations.
