Koppal: A court in Gangavathi has sentenced three persons to two years of imprisonment in connection with a child marriage case reported in Gangavathi Rural police limits.
The principal civil judge and JMFC court delivered its verdict on Wednesday, convicting the trio for conducting the marriage of a minor girl in violation of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on May 5, 2021, at 6am, when the first accused, Mahesh, arranged the marriage of his minor daughter with accused Eeranna at a house in KD Nagar. The marriage was conducted with the assistance of Durgamma.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered under sections 9 and 10 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act. The case was investigated by then PSIs Yallappa (now retired) and Sharavva of Gangavathi Rural police station, who filed a charge sheet after gathering evidence.
After a detailed hearing, the court found all three three guilty, and sentenced each to two years in jail along with a fine of Rs 10,000.
