Change Vande Bharat timings, demand activists

Hubballi: A group of railway activists has demanded to change the timings of Vande Bharat express train and reduce the duration between the source and the destination. Mahendra Singhi, member, Zonal Railway User’s Consultative Committee (ZRUCC); Channaveer Mungurwadi, Member, Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee; Goutam Golecha, former member, ZRUCC submitted memorandum to the general manager of South Western Railway, and said that Vande Bharat train is not convenient due to improper timings. “As more people from Hubballi-Dharwad travel to Bengaluru, the train should start from Dharwad by 5.30am and reach Bengaluru early during office time and the return journey from Bengaluru should start by 5.30pm to reach Dharwad by 11.30pm. This will help people leave early in the morning and return without spending money on hotels, lodging etc in the state capital. Travel time between Bengaluru and Dharwadshould also be reduced,” they demanded. They have also sought a direct daily train between Hubballi and Shirdi (Kopargaon) and to increase the frequency of train no. 20697 from Hubballi to Nizamuddin.
NWKRTC ordered by consumer forum to compensate student passenger
Haveri: The Haveri district consumer disputes redressal forum has ordered NWKRTC to pay a compensation of Rs 14,000 to a physically challenged student for refusing to issue a duplicate pass as his original pass was drenched in rainwater. On Sept 29, 2022, Manjunath Veerayya Hulamani, a physically challenged student from Hosaritti village, was forced to purchase a ticket despite having a pass with a validity for one year. As his pass got wet due to an untimely rain, the number, his signature, name and place were not clearly visible. The conductor forced him to buy a ticket. When he approached Haveri NWKRTC for a duplicate pass, personnel insisted him to pay the full fee to obtain new pass. Irked by this move, Hulamani and his parents had approached the consumers’ forum seeking justice. Due to refusal of pass and his poverty, he could not attend his exams. Forum president Ishwarappa BS, who heard the case, ordered NWKRTC to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 for hurdles created for his studies and Rs 2,000 for the mental agony caused after pass denial and Rs 2,000 for the case cost. “If NWKRTC fails to pay the compensation within 30 days, it should add an interest of 9% per annum to the total amount,” he added in the order.
District judge assumes charge as
administrator for Murugha Mutt
Chitradurga: As per the high court’s directions, district court and sessions judge Premavati Managuli M assumed charge as temporary administrator of Chitradurga’s Murugha Mutt on Tuesday. She arrived at the Mutt by 11.30am and had Darshan of the Gadduge (tomb). Later, she visited the administrative office of the mutt and received the charge from former IAS officer PS Vastrad, who was appointed by the government. Since seer Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru, a prime accused in a sexual assault case of two minor girls, is under judicial custody, the government had appointed Vastrad as administrator of the mutt. Questioning this appointment, mutt-in-charge Basavaprabhu Swamiji had approached the high court. Quashing the appointment, the court had given 6 weeks to devotees of the mutt to make interim arrangement. However, former minister H Ekantaiah had filed an appeal questioning this. Hearing the appeal, the HC bench headed by PB Varale appointed Chitradurga district and sessions judge as administrator for the mutt, on Monday.
Dr Sangappa is new district civil surgeon
Dharwad: Dr Sangappa Gabi, gynaecologist at the District Civil Hospital here, assumed charge as the district civil surgeon on Tuesday. Incumbent district civil surgeon Dr Shivakumar Mankar handed over the charge to Dr Sangappa. Dr Sangappa has been serving as the gynaecologist and obstetrician at the district civil hospital here since 2017. He is a recipient of several awards including the district level Sarvottam Seva award.
Felicitation to MLA and MLC in B’luru
Belagavi: Ratnaprabha Bellad, district unit president, Akhil Bharat Veerashaiva Lingayat Mahasabha, said the Mahasabha state unit will organise a programme in Bengaluru to felicitate the new ministers, MLAs and MLCs from Veerashaiva Lingayat community. The programme will be held at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall, Vaialikaval, Bengaluru, on July 6 at 5pm. Veerashaiva Lingayat MLAs of the district will attend the programme, she said in a press release.
Double murder in Akkatangerhal
Belagavi: A case of double murder was reported from Akkatangerhal village in Gokak taluk on Tuesday. Police have arrested the accused and produced him before a Gokak court. The deceased are Mallikarjun Jagadar, 40, and Renuka Malagi, 42. Yallappa Malagi, husband of Renuka, is the accused. Police suspected Yallappa after coming to know of his wife’s affair. SP Sanjeev Patil visited the spot. A case has been registered at Ankalagi police station.
Prof Nagannavar is new RCU VC
Belagavi: Prof VF Nagannavar has taken charge as the new vice-chancellor (in-charge) of Rani Channamma University (RCU). The post had been lying vacant after the retirement of M Ramachandra Gowda. Prof Nagannavar took charge on Monday.
Guru Poornima celebrated
Belagavi: Madhura Mahila Mandal of Shahunagar, Belagavi, celebrated Guru Poornima on Monday with hundreds of women participating in the programme. Physician and spiritual leader Ramesh Gangur Guruji, who was the chief guest, said guru and goal are two important things in life. “Guru has a greater place than God. Success in life will be easy if there is guru’s guidance and god’s blessings,” Guruji said. Shaila Murtennavar, mandal president, said their organisation has been active in various programmes. B S Savanur, chairman, Ganesh Trust Committee, Shakshi Chavan, Rekhi Master, Sumangala Kaneri, yoga guru, Seema Joshi, leader for social services, Mangal Desai, vice-president of mandal, Sridevi Betageri, the host, Sushma Jagajampi, and Jayashree Bijjur were present.
