Belagavi: Veteran social activist and a founder of Jeevan Vikas Pratishtan advocate Ram Mahedev Apte (96) passed away on Friday.
As per his last wish, family members donated his body through Dr Ramannavar charitable trust to JN medical college of KLE academy of higher education as well as research.
His skin was donated to KLE Dr Prabhakar Kore hospital rotary skin bank. JNMC principal Dr NS Mahantshetti, skin bank coordinator Dr Rajesh Pawar and Mahantesh Ramannavar expressed gratitude to the family members for donating the body and skin for a noble cause.
Ram Apte was a trade union leader and a high court lawyer. He strived for the welfare of sugarcane labourers, industry workers, farmers, devadasis and child labourers for many decades of his life. The federation of various trade unions has organised a condolence meeting at Marathi vidyaniketan ground in the Camp area here on December 27.
