BJP to take out protest rally today demanding Tunga water, MSP for crops

Koppal: As promised, the BJP has scheduled a large protest here on Dec 1 to challenge the state govt for its failure to declare appropriate minimum support prices for maize and paddy, as well as for not supplying water from the Tungabhadra dam for the second crop.On Nov 13, party representatives from Koppal, Vijayanagara, Ballari, and Raichur, located within the Tungabhadra Dam command area, gathered at Munirabad, the dam's site, and cautioned that a large-scale protest would be initiated if water was not made available for the second crop.After an indoor meeting, BJP functionaries held a press conference where they warned that if water is not released under the guise of replacing the crest gates, farmers' lives would be severely impacted. They accused the Congress govt of disregarding the state's second-largest dam.As a result of this meeting, the BJP has now resolved to conduct a huge demonstration on Dec 1, led by the party's state general secretary, P Rajeev. The rally is scheduled to commence at 11am, moving from the city's Clock Tower to Ashok Circle, opposing the state govt.Party district president Basavaraj Dadhesugur; MLAs Doddanagouda Patil and Gali Janardhan Reddy; MLC Hemalatha Nayak; former ministers Halappa Achar and Nagappa Saloni; former MP Shivarama Gowda; former MLAs G Veerappa, K Sharanappa, and Paranna Munavalli; party state secretary Sharanu Tarikeri; state executive member Dr Basavaraj Kyavater, along with various unit office bearers, morchas, mandals, and party workers, will participate in the protest.
