BIJAPUR: Ravsaheb Basagond Biradar, resident of Babanagar village of Bijapur taluk and present taluk panchayat member is contesting as independent candidate for the MLC election from the twin districts. The MLC is scheduled on Friday.
Biradar, who has completed his PUC, has started his own high school educational institution at Babanagar village namely Shri Panisab Grameen Vidya Samshte.
He entered politics after being elected director of Babanavar Vyavasay Seva Sahakari Sangh. He also served as vice-president of Bijapur taluk panchayat for several years.
The main reason he was spurred to contest the MLC election is the injustice done by the former MLCs to Bijapur district, with regard to allocation of funds and neglecting the development of the Bijapur district.
Biradar, with his team of followers and friends, visit each voter at their doorstep, beginning early in the morning and request them to cast their vote in Biradar's favour. He uses seven jeeps and 15 two-wheelers to campaign from 6 am to 10 pm, during which he tours all the villages.
Biradar `alleges' that for the past 12 years, Bijapur-based politicians have not had the opportunity of contesting the MLC election, and Bagalkot district leaders have taken the benefit of the election.
The major portion of the MLC fund is used for the development of Bagalkot district, which indicates the injustice to Bijapur district. He says: "Because of the personal approach and good relation with the elected representatives, I am sure to win the election. Since Bijapur district has more voters compared to Bagalkot district, there are more chances of a Bijapur candidate winning the election for the district," he added.
