Bhimapalas Music Festival on Feb 4
Dharwad: Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, who rose from humble beginnings to become a towering figure in Indian classical music, is being remembered on the occasion of his 104th birth anniversary with the Bhimpalas Music Festival. Organised by the GB Joshi Memorial Trust, the festival will be held on Feb 4 as part of a continuing series of commemorative cultural programmes. The next programme in the Bhimpalas Music Festival series, titled Swara Jhankara, is being presented on Feb 4. The event is supported by the Kshamata Foundation of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and the Violin Academy of Pune. The festival will begin at 5pm at the Alur Venkatarao Bhavan in Dharwad. The opening performance will be a vocal recital by Pune-based vocalist Vidushi Sania Patankar of the Jaipur–Atrauli gharana. This will be followed by a violin recital by Pandit Tejas Upadhye. The concluding performance will be a vocal concert by renowned Kirana gharana vocalist Pandit Anand Bhate. Accompanying artistes include Pandit Bharat Kamat, Anurag Alurkar, and Pandit Suyog Kundalkar. Organiser Sameer Joshi has informed that entry to the programme is free.
